Norris clinched pole position ahead of Verstappen in Austin as Russell dramatically crashed out in final moment. The race was 
an intense battle between the pair which came to a head on lap 52 as the pair rounded corner 12, with Verstappen stealing the inside line, and the lead at the corner’s apex, forcing both to exceed track limits.
 
Norris overtook Verstappen despite exceeding track limits, which strays from the F1 rulebook, and was able to maintain his lead until the race’s conclusion. However, Norris was handed a five second penalty in the dying stages of the race’s final lap, meaning he finished the race fourth, behind Verstappen, despite crossing the finish line third, ahead of the Dutchman.
 
In the 2024 Formula 1 season Lando Norris has driven a total of 19 races for McLaren. From the total of 19 races, Lando has managed to win 3 of them and finish on the podium 11 times. During the 2024 season Lando started the race 6 times from pole position. At the moment Lando Norris is 2nd in the driver championship and challenging Verstappen for the title.
